Overview

Build My Wealth is a web and mobile financial app that helps its users reach their life goals. Its founders are Michael and Rose May Sanchez, childhood sweethearts who have a combined experience in the IT, banking, and financial planning industries. With this new venture, they aim to empower as many first-generation millionaires as possible.

Challenge

The founders tried to trademark its first logo, which had the initials BMW. Due to conflict with the existing BMW car brand, the trademark application was denied. The challenge was to come up with a new logo before the app's release in 2022.

For the past few months, I've been working closely with Michael and Rose May on the app's UI/UX design. To be honest, I'm amazed by their constant pursuit to help and empower as many people as possible. They're very kind and caring folks.

I used to work in the financial industry and actually graduated as a Finance major. But it's my first time to view the financial journey as more than just numbers, charts, and ratios. It's more than just money. Through this experience, I discovered that a key differentiator of this app was Michael and Rose May.

Hence, I wanted the logo to embody not only the apps' core features but also the warm and awesome vibe of its founders.

A typical logo in the financial industry would resemble money, charts, or a house. We wanted to stand out but still have users recognize the app as a part of fintech.

The final logo has a triangle at the top, that signifies an arrow pointing upward. This means the chart's value is going up; that these are good times. This can also symbolize a summit, the highest point of a mountain, or the ultimate goal.

Next, we've got two circles for the founders, Michael and Rose May. Circles also represent one of the app's main features, Core Values. This made it all the more fitting to have them on the logo. Finally, circles could symbolize the app's users while on their financial journey, making their way to the top.

Depending on how you view it, the mountain can also be seen as a graph. It has three peaks, representing the three words that compose the company name: Build My Wealth.
